SMALL SHOPS, BIG BARGAINS!
Traveling is my passion, but shopping while traveling is my guilty pleasure. Actually, it’s more pleasure than guilt for two reasons:
1. I work very hard to earn my money and I deserve to spend it however I want.
2. All the things bought are treasures that always bring me back to my favorite places and memories.
When I found out my husband was taking me to Puerto Rico as our anniversary gift, I couldn’t be happier because I knew that more than a Caribbean paradise, the island is in fact shopping paradise!
During our fantastic stay at the Condado Vanderbilt Hotel, I met an amazing waitress who gave me the exact tip I was looking for, the place with all the upcoming local shopping stores. So I took a day off my hubby (Don’t worry he was truly happy to stay at the infinity pool) and decided to go shopping!
Now I’m not going to talk about big mass shops or the usual big shopping malls we’re used to. Every time I travel, I try to steer away as much as I can from the brands I already find everywhere, and go for the small local shops instead.
I’m sure you’ve already read about the Loíza Street in Santurce and its great bars and restaurants. But what you might not know is, that in that same street you can find some hidden treasures of Puerto Rican fashion. Here are two of my best findings:
If you love vintage clothing and accessories as much as I do, then this is your place. All the pieces have been carefully curated by its owner, you can find unique dresses of good quality and fabrics.
Moni & Coli
Totally loved this store! Gorgeous, trendy and very stylish outfits. Owned by two sisters with great fashion taste, you can find very fashion forward pieces at good prices.
Whenever you are in Puerto Rico, a shopping day at Calle Loíza is a must. Trust me, you won’t regret it!
