When you picture yourself traveling to Puerto Rico, probably the first thing that comes to mind is you, sipping Piña Coladas in a warm, sandy beach under the Caribbean sun. However, there are many things to take into consideration when visiting Puerto Rico and packing your bags.
Here’s what to wear in Puerto Rico:
by My Puerto Rico Experience
1.) Is it a beach trip?
If your plan is extreme relaxation and beach bumming, pack several bathing suits and flip flops to match. You should also bring several coveralls if you’re a woman, and if you’re a man, you may want to consider a swimming top in case you feel like paddle boarding or doing any other water sport that demands a lot of time under the sun. If you plan to walk around plenty, pack your shorts and light colored t-shirts to keep yourself comfortable during the hottest hours of the day.
2.) Are you visiting the mountains?
It’s important to wear long sleeves and long pants when visiting the countryside in Puerto Rico because of mosquitoes, particularly at dawn and dusk. Make sure to always bring an extra pair of sneakers as well if you plan to hike, since rain is pretty common in Puerto Rico’s mountains. A poncho and a waterproof bag will come in handy too.
3.) Going clubbing?
Parties and clubbing are a great deal of Puerto Rico’s nightlife, so when asking yourself what to wear in Puerto Rico, know this: it’s better to be overdressed than underdressed here in this island. If you’re a woman, a nice cocktail dress is a must-pack, and also a sassy outfit (mini skirt and pretty top) is always recommended. Bring high heels to match, even though you should always carry flats in your bag, for when your feet get tired. If you’re a man, make sure to bring a nice set of pants with a dressy shirt and shoes.
Overall, Puerto Rico is a pretty welcoming culture in terms of fashion, but we’re proud of our style and can surely appreciate well-dressed visitors. Follow our motto: better safe than sorry! In other words, pack it all!
