Being a college Music Professor and my life revolves around discovering new musical experiences around the world. I had travelled to Puerto Rico many years ago for the Casals Festival and had promised myself I’d return.

I stayed for a week but my experience was truly transformative, starting with the hotel.  The Condado Vanderbilt, a five-star luxury hotel in Puerto Rico, prolonged the feeling of elegance and timelessness only classical music evokes in me.

by My Puerto Rico Experience

The Festival was one of the best musical performances I have ever experienced. Not only the musical selection was spot on but also the artists were the epitome of perfection. The energy and charisma felt throughout the rooms each night bewitched me and made me feel captivated by the enchantment of this tiny island. It was such an honor to relive my time in Puerto Rico in the company of such spectacular musicians.

I took an impromptu trip to Ponce in search of a deeper understanding for Caribbean music and visited the Museum of Puerto Rican Music. It was a quick stop and I wish the museum was a bit happier (it’s kind of dark), but I felt even more connected to this mystical island. I asked for a guide and he even played a few of the instruments. Ponce is just an hour and a half away from the hotel, but it felt like a different island. The trip was smooth and easy to plan. I’m glad I chose to go.

After a wonderful week of music-filled evenings, I spent the whole day before my departure at the hotel’s SPA. My day started with a Signature Facial, followed by a wonderful and relaxing 50 minute Reiki Experience.

The attendant suggested I tried the Hammam Ritual when I told her I was in search of awe and had found it in Puerto Rico. It was similar to a Turkish bath I took in Morocco… Simply marvelous.

I left a little piece of my heart on this trip to Puerto Rico and took a little piece of Puerto Rico in my heart. Won’t wait ten years again to come back.
