My girlfriend and I (mid-thirties) checked into the Condado Vanderbilt for 4 days before leaving on a cruise out of Puerto Rico, and we could have completely skipped the cruise and stayed at this luxury hotel in Puerto Rico for our entire vacation.
by My Puerto Rico Experience
It was just 10 minutes from Old San Juan and the airport, surrounded by a vibrant strip of fancy hotels in Puerto Rico. Everything from the service to the food to the facilities was top notch. We arrived earlier than the check in (4pm) and were ushered to an amazing area where we stored our baggage while we waited. When we got to the main desk we were greeted with champagne! Yes, champagne!
Room tip: Get an Ocean View room at the new tower. The view itself is totally worth it.
We spent the next day at the infinity pool. The food was a bit high priced but completely merits its value. The staff’s friendliness and excellent service is hard to forget. At first I thought they were just doing their job but quickly realized how sincere their attitude was. The service truly sets this hotel apart from the rest.
In our 4-day stay at the Vanderbilt we went to the 3 pools, hot tub and walked around the beach. We had breakfast at Ben & Jerry's across the lawn from the east tower and took advantage of their great brunch and lunch menus.
There was a lot going on near the Vanderbilt! We walked the whole Condado strip several times, had a gambling night at La Concha and went bar hopping most of the nights. We also did an Old San Juan day tour, which was pretty cool.
One of the nights, the hotel had live music at the lobby and we treated ourselves to their wine list. By the time we had to leave the hotel for our cruise we felt sad and kind of regretted our decision. The cruise was O.K. but no contest for the Vanderbilt. Next time we’ll definitely skip the cruise and stay longer at the hotel!
