I just got back from our family reunion. No ifs, ands or buts, the experience was fantastic. We are over 18 relatives, from the ages 5 to 74, and every one had a terrific time during our trip to Puerto Rico.

I live with my wife in NYC, but my brother and his family are now living in the DC area. The rest of the family lives in New Jersey and Connecticut. We were looking for a family resort in Puerto Rico where we could meet and relax. Copamarina was at a perfect location and the service was excellent. They truly made us feel welcome.

by My Puerto Rico Experience

The first two days we had such a relaxing time. My niece (5) and nephew (8) enjoyed the pool very much. The teenagers rented kayaks and paddleboards at the beach. There is a lot to do at Copamarina. Although all I did was lay by the pool. My wife and her sisters loved the tan (especially because it’s snowing back at home!). It was like a Puerto Rico package, it had something for everyone!

We wanted to see more of the island, so we decided to visit Guánica State Forest (very close to the resort). It ranks among the largest tropical dry coastal forests in the world. We saw reptiles, birds and plants; some endangered and only found in this forest. If you get a chance to go, you won’t regret it. My father loved it. He is an agronomist. I’m so glad I got to see it with him. Tip – Make sure to bring sneakers or walking shoes. The forest is very arid and the terrain is rocky.

After our great experience at the dry forest, my brother and I decided to book a trip to El Yunque, the National Rainforest. It’s a long drive from Copamarina (the resort is located at the southwest of Puerto Rico and El Yunque is near the east coast), but the road trip is spectacular. The landscape is impressive; from brown arid hills to dark green mountains. We didn’t drive (a driver took us on a private van with air-conditioning). Therefore, we were able to enjoy the trip. It was fun for the whole family. I surely recommend it.

The rainforest is absolutely a must see and do. Our tour guide knew a lot and was very enthusiastic. We all enjoyed the private trails. The views are just breathtaking. The kids dived in La Mina waterfall. The water was cold, but refreshing. They had lots of fun. My 5-year-old niece couldn’t stop laughing. It was great to see them so happy.

I’m so glad we explored some of the most important natural sites of the island, but also had time to relax and get away for one week from our hectic lives. It was such a great family reunion I’m looking forward to the next one (hopefully in another beach resort in Puerto Rico)!
