We stayed in Puerto Rico for 6 days in April for Spring Break season. DO IT! I’m so glad I decided to do something different for my 22nd birthday. My friends and I had sooo much fun.

by My Puerto Rico Experience

The trip started in the southwest part of the island. When we got around Guánica, first we rented kayaks and snorkel gear at the hotel. But the highlight of our stay in Copamarina was Gilligan’s Island. You can purchase the trip at the hotel. Best thing of all was that we got there really early, like 9ish a.m. just before the rush. We chose a spot on the edge of this large mangrove mini island, swam around it and just sat there talking and having fun. It’s so awesomely shallow you’ll want to stay there for hours. Bring a cooler! We didn’t want to leave when the boat came to pick us up later in the afternoon, but we were just starting our vacay so it was cool.

Next day we went to a town nearby (Ponce) and took a ferry to Isla Caja de Muertos. You should book this service ahead. It’s essentially a “booze boat”! The music was loud and it got us all in the mood to party. And it sells beer at a fair price. The views are gorgeous and the clear sandy beach is beautiful. Do the hike to the lighthouse early before it gets too hot. When we got back to Ponce, we had dinner and drinks at La Guancha before heading back to Copamarina. The day was perfect!

We drove to San Juan and stayed for two nights at Condado Palm Inn (highly recommended, reasonable rate and very close to the night scene. It’s Puerto Rico’s Best Western). We were leaving from Luis Muñoz Marín’s airport (near San Juan), and we also wanted to be closer to the East side of the island. One of our friends from college told us to go to Culebra. It was my favorite island of the trip! We took a ferryboat from Fajardo and went to Flamenco beach (one of the 10 most beautiful beaches of the world – to me it was THE BEST of the world). Wonderful sunshine and turquoise crystal water. Great for snorkeling or just to chill out.

There’s a stall area for food. Make sure to try the piña coladas and the bushwalkers. Might get you hammered, but was so delish!

I would suggest this trip to all my friends. I gave it 5 stars and hope those who read this review will also consider exploring the island like we did. There are so many other little islands we didn’t get to see, like Vieques, Icacos and Palomino… Can’t wait for my next vacation in Puerto Rico! I was thinking maybe next time book a resort in San Juan and have a little pampering after exploring. Stay gorgeous PR!
